Overview
Ne’ata’q The Food Forest is the first school-based food forest in Nova Scotia / Mi’kma’ki!
The food forest is located at Bluenose Academy, a P-9 public school in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and is a community-built labour of love.
Strategic Solution
The food forest is an exciting community endeavour that weaves a lot of messages into one logo. Ne’ata’q means “the sun is coming out” in the Mi’kmaw language (used gratefully with permission). A pronunciation key encourages the community to use the name with confidence. Bluenose Academy offers a french immersion program, so the name and tagline appear in both English and French. The forest provides opportunities for outdoor education to be incorporated into the school curriculum and nurtures a positive relationship with nature. It was a joy to work on developing the brand and to see how this project continues to grow!
